I had a hard time deciding between a Rad Power e-bike and a Lectric e-bike. I wanted an e-bike that met all of my needs, but the price point had to be within my budget. So I researched thoroughly to determine which of the two best suited my needs, and I outlined my findings below.

As a whole, the Rad Power electric bike is better than the Lectric electric bike. With 672 Wh battery capacity, 750W motor, and 80Nm of torque, the Rad Power e-bike outperformed the Lectric electric bike when it came to steep hills and long rides.

On average, the Lectric eBike is a better option than the Rad Power e-bike if your budget is tight. This is because Lectric e-bikes cost $999, which is much lower than Rad Power e-bikes which cost around $1199-$1999.

In total, if you’re looking for a wide variety of e-bike models to choose from, Rad Power would be the best company to buy an electric bike from. Rad Power has a much more extensive selection of e-bike types when compared to Lectric eBikes. Rad Power sells utility e-bikes, fat tire e-bikes, commuter eBikes, cargo e-bikes, electric folding fat-tire bikes, and electric metro bikes.

I have compiled the table below to compare Rad Power e-bikes and Lectric e-bikes across a spectrum of different aspects. We compared their purchase cost, running cost, maintenance cost, range, life span, types of e-bikes available, warranty period, and reliability.

Purchase Cost of Rad Power eBike Vs. Lectric eBike

On average, the purchase cost of Rad Power e-bikes ranges from $1199 to $1999, while Lectric electric bikes cost $999. Hence, Lectric e-bikes cost $200-$1000 less than Rad Power e-bikes. The cheapest e-bike you can buy from Rad Power is the electric metro bike RadMission 1, which retails for $1199.

Rad Power e-bikes are more pricey than Lectric e-bikes, but they are more affordable than most e-bike brands in the market, which can be priced as high as $13,000.

The cheapest electric bike that Rad Power has manufactured is the RadMission 1.

RadMission 1 has a battery capacity of 504 Watt-hour and motor power of 500 Watts, which is much lower than the capacities of other Rad Power electric bikes. Even so, a RadMission 1 e-bike can still function as a great electric bike for city rides. It may not have the most robust motor on the market, but its power output perfectly suits the city ride style.

RadMission 1 is equipped with pedal-assist, throttle, and auto-on lights, allowing this e-bike to be seen even from a distance of two miles. In addition, it is easy to assemble and has a variety of color options.

One of the most expensive e-bikes that Rad Power sells is the RadWagon 4, which costs $1999. It has a new frame design with multiple points of adjustability. It also has a telescopic seat post and adjustable handlebars that you can adjust according to your size and comfort. This e-bike is costly, but it is definitely worth the price.

RadWagon 4 is an electric cargo bike with 750 Watts of motor power, a 672 Watt-hour Samsung lithium-ion battery, a large payload capacity of up to 350 pounds, and a 120-pounds capacity rear rack. For that reason, RadWagon 4 is suitable for hauling a lot of weight around!

Reasons to Buy Rad Power eBikes

The price of Rad Power electric bikes is higher than Lectric e-bikes because of their high-powered motor and torque, excellent battery capacities, and some other features we are detailing below. Here are some reasons why Rad Power e-bikes are worth the cost:

  • Rad Power is an award-winning electric bike brand and one of the largest e-bike manufacturers in America. So, their electric bikes are proven to meet the needs of most riders.

  • Rad Power e-bikes use reliable and high-quality components in their e-bikes. They use Shimano gears, Kendra tires (with K-shield protection), Tektro mechanical disc brakes (some have Rad Power approved hydraulic brakes), and Samsung battery packs.

  • The battery of Rad Power e-bikes has a capacity of 504Wh-672Wh which can reach more than 50 miles in a single charge.

  • Most Rad Power e-bikes have a 750 Watt motor with 80Nm torque. As a result, riding on steeper hills is more effortless.

Reasons to Buy Lectric eBikes

All Lectric electric bikes are foldable fat-tire e-bikes. Moreover, they only cost $999, $200-$1000 lower than Rad Power electric bikes. Even so, Lectric e-bikes still perform well. Here are some of the reasons to buy Lectric e-bikes:

  • Lectric e-bikes arrive fully assembled. So, you’re good to go out of the box!
  • You can manually adjust Lectric e-bikes to Class 2 or Class 3 mode. As a result, you will always have the option available to you to reach a maximum speed of 20mph or 28mph.
  • Lectric e-bikes have an integrated rear-rack with a 75-pound load capacity.
  • All Lectric e-bikes have a maximum weight capacity of 330 pounds.
  • Have headlamps and headlights.

Rad Power and Lectric e-bikes both provide excellent rides. Also, both have pedal-assist and throttle, so you have the option to not pedal at all.

If you can afford to buy a Rad Power e-bike, the price is undoubtedly worth it. However, if your budget is a little tight, the Lectric e-bike is still a good choice and should not disappoint you.

Types of eBikes Available: Rad Power VS. Lectric

As a whole, there are a dozen e-bike models available from Rad Power. You can choose between utility e-bikes, fat e-bikes, commuter e-bikes, cargo e-bikes, foldable fat e-bikes, and metro e-bikes. On the other hand, Lectric only offers foldable fat e-bike models.

Rad Power e-bike manufactures a wide variety of e-bike models. In contrast, Lectric e-bike only manufactures electric folding fat tire e-bikes (XP 2.0 and XP Step-Thru 2.0).

Suppose you’re looking for a non-foldable electric bike. In that case, Lectric is not the best place to look because they only have folding e-bikes available. However, if you’re into foldable e-bikes, you can check both Rad Power and Lectric.

Rad Power foldable fat tire e-bikes have higher battery capacity and torque than Lectric foldable fat e-bikes. As a result, within normal riding conditions, Rad Power foldable e-bikes can travel much longer distances and climb higher sloped inclines when compared to Lectric foldable e-bikes.

Easily Removable Batteries on Rad Power eBikes

The battery in Lectric’s foldable e-bikes is situated in the downtube, unlike the battery in Rad Power eBikes. Hence, you might experience difficulty in removing them. Furthermore, even though they are removable, you still have to fold the e-bike open to remove the battery, which can be a bit of a hassle.

Adjustable Handlebar Stem and Lights on Rad Power eBikes

Rad Power folding fat e-bikes have an adjustable handlebar stem, which you can raise or lower according to your comfort level and liking. In addition, Rad Power folding fat tire e-bikes have integrated brake lights for extra safety precaution.

Sintered Brake Pads in Rad Power eBikes

Rad Power foldable e-bikes have sintered brake pads, whereas Lectric foldable e-bikes have organic pads. Though organic pads are quieter, sintered pads will last longer in most situations. Another factor affecting your e-bike’s max range is your riding style. However, if you seek help from a professional mechanic, the average service fee is $150, which does not include replacing components. Rad Power sells battery packs that cost between $399-$599. Replacing other parts (i.e., brakes, brake pads, brake lever, rotor, tires, charger, etc.) will cost you up to $350 for most components.

Lectric does not have a mobile service solution. Still, you can visit their help center to learn more about their e-bikes, troubleshooting, and maintenance tips.

The good thing about Lectric e-bikes is that the cost of their battery packs is $100-$300 lower than the price of Rad Power battery packs.

You may avoid significant expenses if you consistently maintain your e-bike. If you consistently maintain your eBike, you won’t have to replace the parts as frequently. It would help if you made it a goal to clean your e-bike as much as possible, especially after riding on a dusty or muddy road.

As a whole, both Rad Power and Lectric e-bikes have a one-year warranty period. This limited warranty includes replacing parts such as the frame, fork, pedals, seat post, bottom bracket, amongst other components. Reliability of Rad Power eBike Vs. Lectric eBike

As a general rule, few riders have experienced major issues when riding Rad Power electric bikes and/or Lectric e-bikes. These two brands are both reliable when properly used and maintained.

The most common issue that Rad Power riders have encountered is a spoke breakage in the rear wheel of their electric bike. There are Rad Power e-bikes with low spoke tension, which could result in broken spokes.

On the other hand, one of the common issues associated with Lectric e-bikes is getting a flat tire in the rear wheel. This issue occurs because Lectric e-bikes distribute more weight into the rear, which increases the likelihood of getting a flat tire.

No electric bike is perfect. Some may have minor issues which can be manually fixed or avoided through proper maintenance. That said, always follow your e-bikes manual to prevent significant problems from arising.

On average, the charging cost of Rad Power and Lectric e-bikes determines their running costs. Rad Power e-bikes can have a running cost through a single charge of $0.3253-$0.7591. On the other hand, Lectric e-bikes’ running cost can be as low as $0.2603 or as high as $0.3904.

  • Voltage and amp-hour of your battery
  • Charging time
  • The electricity rate per kilowatt-hour in your area

Most Rad Power electric bikes have batteries of 48V 16 Ah, whereas Lectric electric bikes have batteries of 48V 9.6 Ah. Furthermore, Rad Power e-bikes have an average charging time of 3-7 hours, whereas Lectric e-bikes fully charge in about 4-6 hours.

The average electricity rate in the U.S as of February 2022 is $0.1412 (Source).

With the given information above, we can compute the charging cost per charge of your e-bike battery (regardless of the brand) by following the equation:

Following the stated equation, we can compute an average cost of $0.3253-$0.7591 for a single charge on the Rad Power e-bike. On the other hand, the average charging cost of a Lectric e-bike for a single charge is $0.2603-$0.3904.

How Fast Can Rad Power Bikes Go?

As a general rule, Rad Power bikes can obtain a top speed of up to 20mph (32 km/hr). Most Rad Power bikes are Class 2 e-bikes (with pedal-assist and throttle). Class 2 e-bikes have a maximum speed limit of 20mph in most states.

Almost all electric bikes sold by Rad Power are Class 2 e-bikes. But unfortunately, class 2 e-bikes can only travel at a top speed of 20mph in most states. So, in that case, even if you somehow modify your Rad Power top’s speed and make it go faster, you still can’t ride it above the stated maximum speed because of the strict laws that may apply to you in certain states.

How Fast Can Lectric eBikes Go?

On average, Lectric e-bikes can go as fast as 28mph (45km/hr). Since Lectric e-bikes are Class 2 e-bikes (with pedal-assist and throttle), riding them at 28mph may not be allowed in some states due to strict laws and regulations about eBikes.

You can ride Lectric eBikes as a Class 2 or Class 3 electric bike. If you choose Class 2 mode, your e-bike can only have a top speed of 20mph. On the other hand, if you choose Class 3 mode, you can potentially ride your Lectric e-bike as fast as 28mph. 

However, we urge you to be mindful of your state’s laws about e-bikes. For example, some states do not allow e-bikes with pedal-assist and throttle to ride at a speed higher than 20pmph.

Remember, Rad Power and Lectric e-bikes are both Class 2 electric bikes. So, before deciding which of the two you want to buy, you have to check to see if they are allowed in your state first. If not, unfortunately, you will have to choose a different product line of electric bikes.
