Zugo vs Super 73 (The Unspoken Difference)

A friend of mine invited me over to see his fabulous collection of motorcycle-style electric bikes from Zugo and Super73. I decided to outline the key differences between a Zugo electric bike and a Super73 electric bike.

As a whole, if you are looking for the cheapest model between Zugo and Super73 e-bike models, getting a Super73-Z1 e-bike would be your best bet. This model costs only $1,495, which is $404 more affordable than any Zugo e-bike model.

On average, if you are looking for a more powerful electric bike, a Super73 e-bike would be the better choice. The nominal motor power of the Super73 e-bike ranges from 500-1200 watts, whereas the peak power ranges from 900-2000 watts.

In total, Zugo e-bikes beat the Super73 e-bikes in terms of range. Zugo e-bikes can travel 30-60 miles on a single charge with a standard battery or 50-80 miles on a single charge if equipped with a long-range battery.

Models: Zugo vs. Super73

In total, Zugo has only one available e-bike model with two different frame style options. On the other hand, Super73 has eight e-bike models available, including the Super73-R, Super73-RX, RSD X Super73-RX, Super73-S1, Super73-S2, Super73-Z, Super73-Z1, and Super73-ZX.

Zugo’s only model is the Zugo Rhino. It has two frame styles from which to choose. You can choose either a step-thru or a step-over for only $1,899.

The eight e-bike models of Super73 have different price ranges and various options for color and components. Furthermore, Super73 has new models coming soon: the Super73-C1X and Super73 Youth Series.

Cost of Purchase: Zugo vs. Super73

As a whole, Zugo e-bikes cost $1,899, while the price range of Super73 e-bikes is $1,495-$4,800. The most affordable Super73 e-bike model is the Super73-Z1, while the most expensive is the RSD X Super73-RX.

At the time this article was written, the standard price of a Zugo Rhino was$1,899, which includes a standard e-bike battery. However, if you choose to purchase a long-range battery to increase the range,  add $400 to the original figure.

Super73 has eight models available at several different price points. The most affordable Super73 e-bike model is the Super73-Z1, which costs $1,495. It is the only e-bike model of Super73 that costs below $2,000. On the other hand, the most expensive e-bike model of Super73 is the RSD X Super73-RX, which costs $4,800.

As the table shows, even though Super73 has the most basic and cheapest model, the rest of their models are more expensive than the only Zugo electric bike model.

Running Cost: Zugo vs. Super73

On average, the running cost of Zugo electric bikes is $0.62-$1.12 on a single charge, and the Super73 electric bikes have an average running cost of $0.35- $0.93. Thus, the running cost of both Zugo and Super73 e-bikes is extremely affordable.

Before computing the average running cost of Zugo and Super73 electric bikes, you must have all of the following pieces of information.

  1. Battery capacity (amp hour)
  2. Electricity rate in your state
  3. Charging time for your electric bike battery

As of May 2022, the average electricity rate in the United States is $0.1383 per kilowatt-hour. However, electricity rates vary by state. To find the electricity rate in your state, visit the Choose Energy website

For Zugo e-bike models, you can choose either a standard or long-range battery. The standard battery for Zugo electric bikes has a capacity of 750Wh, which can be fully charged in six hours. On the other hand, the long-range battery has a capacity of 1008Wh and can be fully charged in eight hours.

For Super73 e-bike models, the highest battery capacity is 960Wh. In contrast, the lowest battery capacity is 418Wh, with a charging time of 6-7 hours.

With all the above-mentioned details, we can now compute the running cost of Zugo and Super73 electric bikes by using the following equation:

Cost of charging e-bike= [(Voltage X Ah)/1000]X(rate of charge per KWh)X(hours of charge)

As a result, the Zugo e-bike models have an average running cost of $0.62-$1.12 on a single charge, while the Super73 e-bike models have an average running cost of $0.35- $0.93.

Maintenance Cost: Zugo vs. Super73

As a whole, there is no significant difference between the maintenance costs of Zugo electric bikes and Super73 electric bikes. Regardless of the brand, any electric bike has an average annual maintenance cost of $150.

Electric bikes need regular tune-ups, so taking your electric bike to any professional mechanic is advised. The $150 service fee does not include the cost of parts that may need replacement. The service fee may also differ from one mechanic to another, and the complexity of the issue with your electric bike can also affect the rate.

To avoid high maintenance costs, it is recommended that you maintain and use your e-bike appropriately. It is also recommended to always follow what is written in your e-bike’s manual. That way, you avoid higher maintenance costs and prolong your e-bike’s life span.

Range: Zugo vs. Super73

As a general rule, the range of a Zugo e-bike with a standard battery is 30-60 miles, and 50-80 miles for a long-range battery. On the other hand, the Super73 ranges 15-40+ miles in full-throttle mode and 25-75 miles in pedal assist mode.

Comparing their ranges, Zugo e-bikes can go longer distances on a single charge than Super73 electric bikes. However, their ranges can be directly affected by several factors such as the level of pedal assist, type of terrain, rider’s weight, and weather.

Motor Power: Zugo vs. Super73

On average, Zugo electric bikes have motor power of 750 watts. On the other hand, Super73 electric bikes have nominal motor power of 500-1200 watts and peak power of 900-2000 watts, depending on the Super73 e-bike model.

Zugo electric bikes are equipped with 750-watt geared hub motors with 85 Newton-meter torque, which is good for riding steep inclines.

The e-bike models of Super73 have different motor powers. Super73 e-bikes have nominal motor power as low as 500 watts and as high as 1200 watts, whereas their peak power ranges from 90 watts to 2000 watts.

Zugo and Super73 electric bikes are both useful and reliable when riding hills. However, the motor power of Super73 really stands out. Thus, if you’re into a powerful e-bike, choosing a Super73 e-bike would be a wise decision.

As a general rule, there is no significant difference in the reliability of Zugo and Super73 electric bikes. They both also have excellent customer review ratings on their respective websites. Additionally, both are reliable when properly used and maintained.

Is Zugo a Good Bike? 

As a general rule, Zugo is a good electric bike. It is very affordable but is equipped with great components that can make your ride more exciting and fun. A Zugo electric bike is certainly worth buying.

Zugo has a lot of useful components, such as its long-range battery option, which could help you travel as far as 80 miles on a single charge. Aside from that, it has 750 watts of motor power with 80 Nm torque, which makes riding steeper inclines effortless.

Other features of the Zugo e-bike are its pedal assist and throttle. They allow you to travel on full-throttle mode even when you don’t feel like pedaling.

How Fast Can a Zugo Bike Go? 

As a whole, the Zugo e-bike can travel at 20-28 mph. The e-bike is shipped as a Class-2 electric bike, so it has a standard maximum speed of 20 mph. You can unlock your e-bike and transform it into a Class-3 e-bike, which can have a top speed of 28 mph.

Are Zugo Bikes Street Legal?

As a general rule, Zugo electric bikes are street legal. The electric bikes are shipped as Class 2 e-bikes, which are street legal in almost all states but make sure to check your state laws about the legality of electric bikes.
