Bafang Ultra (M620) vs Bafang M600 (All Specs Compared)

Last night, a friend asked me which e-bike motor performs better, the Bafang Ultra (M620) or the Bafang M600. I created a table to compare the key features of the Bafang Ultra (M620) motor and the Bafang M600 motor.

As a general rule, if having more torque is a priority, the Bafang Ultra (M620) motor is the best for you. Bafang Ultra (M620) has a torque of 160Nm, which can help your electric bike propel up the steepest of inclines.

As a whole, if you are looking for an electric bike motor that can provide a high level of power, the Bafang Ultra (M620) motor would be your best choice. This electric bike motor has a power output of up to 1000W.

This article will dive into the differences and similarities between Bafang Ultra (M620) and Bafang M600 motors.

Torque: Bafang Ultra (M620) vs. Bafang M600

As a whole, Bafang Ultra (M620) motor has more torque than the Bafang M600 motor. The Bafang Ultra (M620) has 160Nm of torque, whereas the Bafang M600 has 120Nm. Therefore, Bafang Ulta (M620) has better climbing performance.

Electric bike torque measures the rotational power of the electric bike motor. In other words, it is your e-bike motor’s ability to rotate the bike’s back or front wheel (Depending on where the motor is located). Thus, it allows your electric bike to accelerate and climb hills effortlessly.

Since Bafang Ultra (M620) motor has more torque than the Bafang M600 motor, it can climb steeper hills more easily than electric bikes equipped with a Bafang M600 motor. However, despite having less torque than the Bafang Ultra (M620), the Bafang M600 motor still performs well in climbing hills.

If the increased torque (160Nm) is what you need the most, we recommend going for the Bafang Ultra (M620) motor. However, if you think 120Nm torque would be enough, the Bafang M600 motor would be just fine for your needs.

Motor Power: Bafang Ultra (M620) vs. Bafang M600

On average, the Bafang Ultra (M620) motor can provide more power than the Bafang M600 motor. Bafang Ultra (M620) can provide up to 1000W of power, while the Bafang M600 can provide up to 500W of power.

The motor power (expressed in watts) is a measure of the work being delivered in a specific period. Technically, the higher the watts, the more work that is being done.

Since Bafang Ultra (M620) motor can provide higher power than the Bafang M600 motor, it can deliver more work than Bafang M600 within a specific amount of time. In addition, with its higher motor power and torque, Bafang Ultra (M620) can help your electric bike accelerate more quickly.

Therefore, if 1000 watts is needed, it is highly advisable to choose the Bafang Ultra (M620) motor.

Weight: Bafang Ultra (M620) vs. Bafang M600

As a general rule, the Bafang Ultra (M620) motor is heavier than the Bafang M600 motor by 3.1 pounds (1.4 kg). The Bafang Ultra (M620) motor has an estimated weight of 11.7 lbs (5.3 kg), whereas the Bafang M600 motor weighs 8.6 lbs (3.9 kg).

The weight of the electric bike motor will increase the entire weight of your electric bike. Though the Bafang Ultra (M620) motor is heavier by 3.1 pounds (1.4 kg), this weight does not significantly affect the overall performance of the e-bike itself.

Additionally, pedaling won’t become more tiresome even with a heavier weight because the M620 motor provides the necessary assistance to make the weight difference negligible.

Primary Usage: Bafang Ultra (M620) vs. Bafang M600

As a whole, the Bafang Ultra (M620) motor is primarily used and designed for e-cargo bikes, e-tandems, and high-end e-MTBs. On the other hand, the Bafang M600 motor is designed for high-performance e-MTBs.

With its higher torque and power output, the Bafang Ultra (M620) motor is best for electric bikes carrying heavy loads, such as electric cargo and electric tandem bikes. If you carry a lot of weight, you need a lot of power from your motor to propel your electric bike, especially when going up steep inclines. The Bafang Ultra (M620) motor will provide the power and support you need to accelerate.

The Bafang M600 motor is best used in high-performance electric mountain bikes because of its triple-sensor system. This triple-sensor system is composed of one torque sensor and two-speed sensors. These sensors will react quickly to your pedal-power input. Hence, it provides excellent support.

Location: Bafang Ultra (M620) vs. Bafang M600

As a general rule, Bafang Ultra (M620) and Bafang M600 motors are placed in the same location. These motors are positioned near the middle of your electric bike. Mid-drive motors are highly efficient for riding on rough terrains and up hills.

Since Bafang Ultra (M620) and Bafang M600 are both mid-drive motors. They provide excellent weight distribution on your electric bike. Since there is more even weight distribution, your ride will be more smooth and comfortable, even at greater speeds. In addition, mid-drive motors work with the electric bike gears, which provide impressive power output to your electric bike.

Mid-drive motors are powerful. However, their location provides a significant disadvantage to your e-bike chain. Bafang Ultra (M620) motor and thenBafang M600 motor are mid-drive motors, so they put a lot of stress on your eBike chain, which can cause frequent chain breakage.

Additionally, repairing mid-drive motors is quite tricky because they are integrated with the e-bike’s gearing system, and disassembling the motor is complicated. However, mounting and removing the Bafang Ultra (M620) and Bafang M600 motors can make this task much easier.

This is because they are located in the middle of your electric bike and do not share space with your e-bike’s wheels. Therefore, you don’t have to unmount the wheels when cleaning the motor.
